Brokeback Mountain (2005)

So I've seen it myself, one of 2005's most discussed movies. To be fair, it's a very good drama story, very sad. The movie streches over many years, and things therefore happen very fast. It's hard to get to know what people think, this is a good example of the fly on the wall perspective. You see what happens, but you don't always know why they do things, and why they don't. And it's inevitable to pass the fact that this movie is about two queers, which made me have a split opinion on the most intense scenes. Because they're all very good acted and stuff, but still there is a distance that I think most audiences find themself having to it. But hell, if you're queer, then this must be a 10.

If not for Tom Welling and Maggie Grace, I would never have seen this movie. But I will not agree with the place on IMDb bottom 100 list. It's not that bad, I've seen worse, and I think there is at least 100 movies worse than this. Though one thing's for sure, I would never pay to see this.

One of the better action comedies. Full throttle all through. And with a twinkle in the eye from both actors. A must see from Angelina Jolie fans, that I suppose I am, although I've seen only about 1/3 of her movies.

I think this movie is about change. Almost everybody in the movie changed, either in impression from others, or in the way they actually were. Change is about trying to realize who you really are, and what you feel you need to be. It is also about what you need others to be.

This is a very calm movie, but in a way that it's still OK to watch. I didn't actually find it interesting, that is a wrong choice of word, but maybe intriguing and I wanted to know what happened. The main plot of the story was a little dull, or maybe simple is the right word, I don't know. What I'm trying to say is that a story that was in the beginning mainly based on a thumbsucking problem, might seemed a little too witty. But luckily things became more complicated, and you really got to know that not everything was about this thumbsucker, or the thumbsucking. After some time, the thumbsucking issue just became an underlying subject, with more important matters coming into focus.

There was clearly a few attempts of trying to be an art film, but not to the degree of being impossible to understand. In fact I think they made the perfect mix of Hollywood and art. Not Hollywood Hollywood, but understandable and possible to follow the storyline. To that extent it was an art film, they didn't answer all of my questions, but so is also hard to do when there are so many complex characters. You just have to think a little for yourself. Enjoy!

As predictable as ever, but still a great movie. With an adorable Reese Witherspoon, the usual style from Mark Ruffalo and Jon Heder almost Napoelon Dynamite like character, I'm looking forward to see him appear in other movies as well.

The only reason to watch a movie like this is that one of feeling good by a nice love slash comic story. And if you're into happy endings once in a while.

Nothing more than a lousy dope film. Cheech and Chong might be a little funny in the beginning, but after some time they're just being too stoned and doing nothing but smoke. But if you like cannabis-movies, you should put this on your list, it's a classic.

Not bad, not bad at all. Neither the most professional actors I've seen in action, but the whole thing just simply work very well. And when I saw it was a TV movie afterwards, I guess I was kind of swept away, I thought most TV movies was boring, but this one is a catch. If you like money betting, casino movies and gambling flicks, you should give this here a try.

I do not recommend this movie if you want to see a good war movie. I'm not a fan of war movies, but I like Full Metal Jacket, which is much better than this movie here. I know Jarhead is based on a true story, but being true is not the same as being good. Go rent Full Metal Jacket, and you'll have a good time.

After a long and slow beginning, the movie did not changed character at all, it just kept on being slow. Nothing great about it like with Lord Of The Rings. I remember the TV series as much greater and interesting. Not even the typical "we're all a big family that love eachother in the end" made me feel a little into the movie. The adventure and journey of the TV series was missing, Narnia felt much smaller, and I didn't get a feeling of a fantasy world at all.

Not worth a single penny. Read the book or watch the TV series, if you are able to see through the old special effects, they might be not so good.

Naomi Watts is a brilliant actress, and saves this movie from total desctruction. It very art, and the story is kind of slow and doesn't give much. But when we're looking at how it's made, the camera, Naomi, and the banal episodes, it's an OK movie. Although Napoleon Dynamite scores higher when it comes to indie gems.

Of the better stand-ups I've seen. It was better the first time, but still very funny and entertaining. I urge you all to see this one, if you're into stand-up comedy, a much better choice than Eddie Murphy' 230 times fuck stand-up from '83. (Yes, he managed to say fuck that many time during 70 minutes).

Who cannot like Woody Allen movies with their witty jokes, great dialogue and writing that makes you a part of the film. Annie Hall is an excellent example of what Woody Allen does. I've tried for a very long time to sit down and watch this movie, and today I finally made it. I've not seen a single minute of it before, so it was only becaus I had other easier-to-watch Hollywood movies around that I didn't watch this until now.

If you like Woody Allen movies, you've got to see this one. But you've probably seen it before, if you like Woody Allen movie.

But the way they got through with it never hit the highs. Not completely boring, but neither giving. Want something good, pick one of Scorsese's.

I've seen Al Pacino done much better than this, and Matthew McConaughey; he's just a grinning, insinuating guy. I'm choosing the term guy, because I really don't know if he's an idiot or a cool dude. But for what I've seen in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Edtv, he's just an average actor. The story... well, lets say it clearly, like I always do when I don't like the movie too much: Nothing new here! If you're interested in gambling and sports, you should go gamble your self. Better spending all your money on that than $5 on this (or whatever you have to pay for a DVD these days).

A great comedy. They've cut out the worst clichés, and there is something unexplainable funny about Owen Wilson's calmness. If you're going to watch a comedy in the near future, watch this one, you will not regret.

If it were up to me, this wouldn't have been the first real movie of the year I watched. But unfortunately, I'm not to decide what's on TV when I've got nothing better to do. Something I noticed this time (you see, I watched this movie only a couple of months ago or so), Andie MacDowell really sucks as an actress, and this is a not very good romance/comedy. It got a few good jokes, but the story is totally predictable and takes away the pleasure of watching it.

Jeremy Clarkson : Heaven & Hell (2005)

I was unsure wheter to put this under movie or TV. Because it's neither. It's a DVD with cars, not a documentary movie, just a documentary. Not a TV documentary, because it hasn't been on TV.

What I know for sure, is that Jeremy Clarkson (and Top Gear when it comes to television shows) is a great driver and host. If he want, he can make almost everybody like cars. I didn't care much for car shows on television before I saw Top Gear a few years ago.

This is worth checking out if you are interesting in sportscars.

Since this ain't no serious award, I've quickly put together some movie to remember from the year that has passed. Maybe a few movies isn't a 100% winner in it's category. But after have watched nearly 200 movies this year, I'll say it's hard to find the best of so many good ones.

A calm movie that some of you might find boring, but to me it was an interesting flick that made me think. Jim Jarmusch has written and directed this mixture of pictures, sounds and a strange story, with Bill Murray as we've seen him before in Lost In Translation an The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou: Tranquil and deep.

A few interesting faces here as well: Ryan Donowho (Johnny in The O.C.) and Alexis Dziena (Kira in Invasion). Dziena's character Lolita reference directly to Nabokov's lyrical and darkly funny novel without ever being aware that with every seductive lick of a glistening Popsicle, she's succumbing to novelistic destiny.

As a conclusion of this post, I will say that I rate this movie higher compared to the other strange calm movie of 2005 that I mentioned above, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.

Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse (2001)

Not the good old Disney christmas all through. A couple of old classics, but mostly new and cheaper cartoons. I prefer the old ones. Of the stories in this 60 minute video, the one about Scrooge at the end was the best. But to be honest, it bored me.

Way too long, and way too much action. I was getting rather tired of it. And there was no tearbreaking scenes that could change the mood either. He has tried, but he has failed. I'm not saying this movie is awful, but it's not "the eight wonder of the world" either, nor a masterpiece. The name Peter Jackson is blinding.

But to the positive aspects of the movie, the actors. Naomi Watts is mostly great, she knows how to act, but with the CGI monkey as her opponent, it doesn't feel real. Jack Black does what he's good at, using a lot of body language and face expressions to act out as the Carl Denham who are on his way to becoma a megalomaniac. Adrien Brody is seen, but not so much, the love story of his Jack Driscoll and Naomi Watts Ann Darrow is there, but not in the front. Maybe that's a good thing. Colin Hanks, an actor who some of you may know from such movies as Orange County (also starring Jack Black) or the Roswell TV series, is acting good, but I doesn't get his role. Is he suppose to be the person holding Mr. Denham back? And Andy Serkis, is he there for a reason as well?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)

A good family movie, not realstic at all, the CGI are not exactly cheap, but they're not the best ones I've seen either. Johnny Depp does play a good role, but Freddie Highmore is almost more convincing as little Charlie. He's so young that Depp's acting is put a little into the background. A very enjoyable movie, which you of course should put on your "movies of 2005 worth watching" list, if you got more than 10 names on it.

Well done, Joss Whedon! A worthy continuation of the TV show! It got it all, and it got it good. Some very sad moments for us Firefly lovers, but it makes a complete movie. The humor is just great, and fits in with the characters as I know them. If you are looking for the same amount of western as in the TV show, I think you will get a little disappointed, because it seems like they have prioritized other thing in here. Another thing I love about this movie, is the lack of CGI. Not to say there is no CGI, there is plenty, but not when it comes to River's fighting. It is meant to make us viewers feel like it's real, not only what many movies today are about, to make us gasp.

But if you ever plan to see this movie, something you surely should, I will strongly suggest for you all to watch the Firefly series first. It might not be a complete TV show with an ending as many would like it to be, including me before I saw this movie, but it's well worth spending 10 hours watching! If I may quote Ben Stiller from Starsky & Hutch (2004): "Do it!".

Holy crap! I seriously hope this is some kind of joke from Luc Besson and the director. Going from Fifth Element and Leon to this? No way. The stunts are so overdone it could make a man cry! And some of the effects are so bad, a friend of mine said he could even make it look better making it in his baththub! But at least we were not bored to death, bad movies can be used as comedy, and we did have some very good laughs!

Not much of anything, but an average good movie with a lovely cute Nicole Kidman. What I mean with not much of anything, is that there's not too much drama nor action, nor clichés or love. The ending is of the modern kind, no kissing with the skyline in the background, thank God. Actually it is the fact that they haven't put in all the usual stereotypes and clichés that makes this an average good movie.

It's a well crafted film, in spite of the mix of winning in sports, romance and warm familiy humor, and a story that is bound the end happily. But the road is long and hard, longer and harder than any movie alike I've seen lately. Because lately I've been imprinted with 90 minute movies that is just so superficial and fast forward.

Definitely the best Harry Potter movie I've seen. But I've only seen two, so what do I know? The story starts off quite fast compared to the book, but I'm not complaining about that. When it comes to turning such a big fat book into a 2.5 hour movie, that's just something that has to be done. The story that follows is filled with moments where you just have to laugh, and some that almost makes you cry. Strange thing, these are just children, but it seemed like the movie got everybody in the theatre. So, when it comes to Harry Potter, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the book this movie was based on, I've only read about 50-100 pages so far.

I didn't catch the whole movie, but most of it. And what I saw was a mixture of interesting technique and a slow story. The colors, or the mix of black and white with colors is a eye-candy for me, and the idea of some kind of riot in a classic sit-com, that doesn't excist in our real world, is also interesting. But as I said before, a bit too slow for a comedy, and not touching enough for a drama.

American Pie: Band Camp (2005)

To be honest, I did not have any expectations for this movie. With only two from the original American Pie cast, Eugene Levy and Chris Owen, how could this possible live up to it's name? The fact is that it doesn't, neither did American Wedding (2003), but that was a movie made for cinema. Band Camp was a direct-to-video production, that gives us a reason not to think highly of it. I'm not saying that all movies that goes directly to video is bad, there are exceptions, but in this case American Pie is only there to sell. In fact, Band Camp is a spin-off with a story holding Matt Stifler, Steve's younger brother, as the main character. But it's not the same character playing Matt as in the other movies, although this new guy (Tad Hilgenbrinck) looks more like he's in family with Steve than Eli Marienthal did.

With no expectations, this movie turned out to be worth it's 90 minutes. Matt starts out as a bad guy, trying to live up to his brother, but turns out to change a little, to no ones surprise (talking about us viewers). The movie is nothing new, but takes what made American Pie popular in the first place: Embarrassing incidents, geeks, etc. The difference is, that Matt Stifler does not act like Jim(bo), he's more cool about the incidents, because he's a Stifler. That is what makes this movie different, and worth watching. Although I do not suggest you use all of your money on a copy.

One of the better thrillers I've seen lately. It shows us that Cronenberg really has it for details in his movies. It has something over itself, that gives me the feeling of a less good horror movie, but in a good way. How does that sound? Because there's something in here that makes me think of this as an A-movie as well. My conlusion is whatever, that if you're going to watch a crime/thriller of 2005, choose this, you will not regret it. It's fantasticly enough unpredictable.

So many good sayings, and such good references to both horror movies and other classics. This movie sure provides fun and a huge portion of laughs. The best animation of the year, closely followed by The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper (2005), a short movie played just before this one. Wallace & Gromit serves us British humour at it's best, and shows us that there's no doubt they can do as good in one long movie as in three smaller ones. A must see!

Why this movie has gotten this low rating I can't tell. I though the movie was funny, and the driving was of the more interesting kind that I've seen in movies. Sean W. Scott is pretty cool, and J. Knowille can crack some jokes himself. From me, who usually don't rate with numbers, this is at least a 6. And that's OK for a comedy!

Drama? This is a comedy, for christs' sake! This is pure fun! Kevin Spacey is a genius. Mena Suvari is actually hot in this movie, and Peter Gallagher is pretty cool, but not as cool as in The O.C. I can't believe it's six years since I saw this in the theatre, time sure flies by.

The animation and persons seems real, the designs are wonderful and you get the impression of that very much money has been spend. Sometimes a very strange movie, but for a horror/thriller to be, it's not as scary as the Japanese movies I've seen. It's a bit slow, and barely manage to keep me interesting during the whole 90 minutes. I hope Wes Craven's Red Eye is something different than a Hollywood remake of this movie, apart from that it take place on a plane.

Actually a good movie. Funny to see James Gandolfini in another role than Tony Soprano. The Mexican is great as a comedy, sort of a situation comedy involving guns and shooting (violence). Just what I needed to get in a good mood before bedtime.

This was a hard one to get. I did not understand most of it, probably because of the more advanced language. I get English, but with dialogues like in this movie, I prefer subtitles. I got a few parts, so it was not a complete waste of time. And there was parts where I was able to laugh some.

I've got to say, after Love Actually, Hugh Grant has turned out to be a funny bloke. In this not so splendid comedy / romance, he is still a funny guy together with many of th eothers. But the story in itself is destined to follow the path of the stereotype comedy / romance from it's very beginning. And I do not like Andie MacDowell, I've got bad memories with her movies, although I can't name a single one of them.

I've seen, or read, better "stranded on an island" stories than this one. But as a fan of such stories, I had to watch this movie, although most of my friends said that it was rubbish. After watching it, I can see why they think so, there is absolutely no real action, and the story from the mainland is really rubbish. But it is a "stranded on an island" story, and I can't look away from the fact that tropical islands gives me a good feeling.

An OK movie for a Saturday night. A few funny moments, plus one or two terrible ones mixed up in a romance / drama story of a woman who after 18 years is thrown out of her home by her terrible husband, and after that finds the real love of her life. But before they can marry she has to forgive her ex-husband. I guess one of the themes are forgiveness, at any costs. And the director has neatly wrapped it into a drama / comedy, which does not mean it's a good story.
